Jon James
Jon
"Lucky" James, the founding member of The Beavers,
is an experienced guitarist with thousands of gigs under his
belt. As well as playing in bands for over thirty years has
experienced the club circuit as half of a male/female duo in
the seventies (the male half, in case you were wondering) and
most of the nineties in a male duo playing the dance & cabaret
circuit. Jon holds the record for the longest gig undertaken,
which was the Dover-Calais ferry, four trips in one day, without
breaks. The "lucky" element is that he has a reputation
for being the constant recipient of luck. Unfortunately to this
date, it has been mainly bad.
James
Clement
James
"Animal" Clement was fortunate enough to be taught by
the infamous Bob Richards, who as well as being
the sticks man for legendary rocker, MAN, has played with the
likes of Clapton, Status Quo, Dave Edmunds, Andy Fairweather-Low,
etc. Bob introduced James to the band in July 2006 after a chance
meeting that seemed to be the hand of fate. James really surpassed
himself late in 2006 by managing to play a gig, without missing
a beat, with the wrong foot as he had fractured his ¡°bass
drum¡± foot in a fall. (While this clearly demonstrates the
high standard of James' abilities, it also unfortunatly points
out the stupidity he showed by failing to stay on his feet in
the first place).
Claire
Fleming
Claire
"The Rock Chick" Fleming, fronts the band with an
infectious enthusiasm. A huge Elvis fan, with hair that appears
to have a mind of it's own, has 15 years as an experienced vocalist
with several big soul bands. Sang with the likes of Owen Money
& The Commitments with regular appearances at Butlins, Pontins
and Haven Holiday parks, her superb vocal ability is matched with
a stunning visual performance, which really does need to be seen
to be believed.
Mark
Squire
Mark
"The New Guy" Squire, also an accomplished guitarist
& songwriter, helped the band out in 2006 when the then bass
player was unavailable to cover a few gigs. When the opportunity
arose to join as a permanent member, he jumped at the chance,
the band persistantly hounded him until he agreed to join, feeling
that they had never met a more talented musician in their entire
combined lifetime (edited by: M.Squire 14-03-2007). Everyone
felt that the band was now complete.
Keith
Smith
Keith
"The Keys" Smith's keyboard playing is highly acclaimed
by all musicians who have been lucky enough to share the same
stage. An accomplished pianist with influences from Jerry Lee
to modern artists like Ben Folds, is now also the proud owner
of a much coveted Hammond Organ, after years of wincing at the
pretend hammond sounds that modern keyboards still try to emulate,
Keith (now with a much lighter wallet) felt this was the band
that deserved the real thing. Keith, who has played in bands since
the 1960's (anyone remeber Gerry and the Rebels?), once
found himself in the position of playing support to an up &
coming band of the day - none other than Pink Floyd.
